GENEVA – The World Health Organization’s top emergency specialist said on Friday it would be “highly speculative” for the WHO to state the coronavirus did not emerge in China, where it was initially determined in a food market in December last year.
“I believe it’s extremely speculative for us to say that the disease did not emerge in China,” Mike Ryan stated at a virtual rundown in Geneva after being asked if COVID-19 could have first emerged outside China.
“It is clear from a public health viewpoint that you start your examinations where the human cases initially emerged,” he added, stating that evidence might then lead to other locations.
