Jennifer lost her son Quincy to an opioid overdose and she wants to make sure that no other parent has to go through this. Addiction psychiatrist Dr. Carlos Tirado shares that once you are addicted to opioids you can’t just flip a switch and not be addicted anymore. He shares that he has seen great success with the FDA-approved treatment Buprenorphine, which attaches to the same receptors that the other opioids attach to. But, for most physicians there’s a negative incentive to get certified to be able to prescribe the drug.
