Certified nursing assistants (CNA) makeup an integral part of the healthcare industry. They work under the direction of nurses, and they provide important care to patients, including measuring and recording vital signs; feeding, dressing and moving patients; changing bedding, and much more. They may also have different titles such as nursing assistants, state tested nursing assistant (stna), patient care tech (pct), and more, depending on the state and/or level of certification that the nursing assistant has obtained.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average salary for a nursing assistant is $28,540 per year or $13,72 per hour.
Alaska was the highest paying state for CNAs in 2017. The state paid nursing assistants an average salary of $37,950, and an average hourly wage of $18.24.
Louisiana was the lowest paying state for CNAs in 2017. The average salary in this state was $21,880, and the average hourly wage was $10.52.
